When the current owners of this stunning 81.18 +/- acre property first laid eyes on the land, I was privileged to be present. It was love at first sight! I suggested that they build on the upper edge of the field, but they had grander ambitions. They envisioned being sited on a higher bench to take full advantage of the Driftless Area beauty. Breathtaking views, better sunrises and amazing sunsets was their goal. My somewhat skeptical answers was, “Well all it takes is money”.  What they have created is a hideaway with no expense spared in making it a property that many only dream about.

Located in southeast Richland County, it is within a convenient driving distance of Madison (1 hour), Milwaukee (2 hours) and Chicago (3 hours). As you approach the property, you will appreciate that there isn’t a subdivision in sight. In fact, there are few structures to taint your impeccable view from the home.

The residence itself is designed to take full advantage of the vista. Generous use of windows on 3 sides of the living room let in both the light and the landscape. These windows frame a stone woodburning fireplace that reaches up to meet the recessed ceiling. Skylights in this recessed area add interest as does the contrasting wood ‘tongue and groove’ in this area. Completing this main room is the generous dining area which creates an appropriate link between the living room and the generous yet intimate kitchen. The kitchen featuring custom cabinets, granite countertops, a spacious pantry and a floating island work area will make a novice or professional chef feel at home.

Off the central area, opposite the kitchen, you will find the primary bedroom suite. This oasis within the home offers virtually all that the discriminating homeowner could desire. The east facing bedroom overlooks a landscaped garden area providing a pleasant morning view. A side door leads to a cozy deck sitting area. Across the bedroom, the primary bath is a showcase. The sink is artistically carved from a slice of petrified wood. The unique travertine stone soaking tub is the perfect spot for one or a couple to unwind. A large tile shower with rain shower head also leaves little to be desired. The nice walk in closest completes this suite.

The second main floor bedroom has generous closet space and direct access to the second main floor bathroom. This bath also features an artistic granite sink and tile shower. This bath may also be accessed via a second door so it can be utilized as a guest bathroom.

The lower level offers a walkout to the yard and egress for the lower-level bedroom. A comfortable family room is also located here. The finished portion of the lower level also contains a third bath, again featuring a tile shower.

This amazing home is truly ideal for all season enjoyment of nature. During the warmer months, you will appreciate the wrap around composite deck with cable railings to assure a full view. When there’s a nip in the air, you will love watching sunsets from the 3-season porch near the kitchen. As winter sets in, the generous use of windows allows you to revel in the views from a chair by the fireplace. The 2 car attached garage is convenient for ingress and egress and the transition between home and garage is facilitated by a handy entry area featuring oak built ins and bench.  No expense was spared on the home with on-demand hot water, Gerkin windows, fiber cement siding, composite decking, solar tube skylights, wood and tile floors, and the liberal use of granite.

Equipment storage for the property is provided by a 30 x 40 metal building with power and concrete floor. On the west end, you will find  a 10 x 30 insulated and heated living area. This would be a perfect craft area or studio. On one end of this room is a 6 x10 south facing greenhouse for all of your green thumb needs. A firepit and sitting area at the back of the shed would be the spot to be during a fall sunset.

While the home and outbuilding are delightful, the land is equally enchanting. With 81.18+/- acres to roam, you’re sure to find plenty of spots to explore. In front of the home, 24+/- acres of tillable land is leased for income. As the acreage slopes up towards the ridge, timberland takes over providing a wooded wonderland. Mature hardwoods give way to hidden glades of fiddlehead ferns. A rock outcropping with a small cave overlooks the north valley. Access to these beautiful areas is eased by miles of trails which are well suited to hiking, horseback riding and ATV use. In the winter, snowshoeing or snowmobiling opens up new vistas not visible during leaf on conditions. 52 acres of the property is enrolled in Managed Forest Law (MFL) to keep taxes lower. In the southwest corner of the property, a fresh water spring emerges from the hill near a natural garden spot. Nature lovers will enjoy the variety of wildlife in the area. Hunters will appreciate that QDM is practiced in the area resulting in great deer quality.
