Derek Grimsrud has developed a great reputation in the Southern Iowa real estate business. With over 20 years of experience in selling property in Iowa, Derek fully understands the importance of the high level of integrity and professionalism required on real estate transactions. He has closed nearly 500 farm & rural property sales and this background allows him to provide service and expertise to buyers and sellers that is second to none.
Derek earned a bachelor’s degree from Winona State University. He honed his early sales career at Cabela’s and PSE Archery selling sporting goods throughout the Midwest. This sales experience made for an easy transition into real estate back in 2005, and he has been selling rural property ever since.
In addition to selling Derek earned his Broker’s license in 2015 and has experience with all types of real estate transactions including parcel splits, 1031 tax deferred exchanges, family estates, LLCs and partnerships. He has also sold many types of land including tillable tracts, recreational/hunting farms, hobby farms, home acreages, lake properties, CRP, WRP, pasture and timber.
Derek has lived in the Des Moines area for many years and has an extensive network of not only buyers and sellers but also real estate attorneys, brokers, bankers, 1031 intermediaries, title companies, abstract companies and farm managers. Derek raised 2 children in this community and enjoys outdoor activities with them; especially sports, hunting and fishing.
Through the years Derek has personally leased, bought, sold and built in the country providing valuable first-hand experience with the various processes from the customer’s perspective. He has also done extensive work to numerous properties involving habitat improvement, timber stand improvement, watershed improvement and crop productivity enhancement in order to maximize the utility and future equity of each property.
